Meet-and-Greet with Jason Yat-Sen Li MP: Strengthening Community Through Dialogue

The Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce was pleased to host a Meet-and-Greet with Jason Yat-Sen Li MP, Member for Strathfield (NSW), bringing together members of our community for a thoughtful discussion on multiculturalism, culture and belonging in Australia.
The morning provided a valuable opportunity for members to exchange perspectives on the role of multiculturalism in shaping modern Australia and to reflect on how communities can continue to foster inclusion, understanding and meaningful engagement across cultures.

Celebrating Multiculturalism

The conversation explored the value of multiculturalism as a defining strength of Australian society, where people from diverse cultural backgrounds can celebrate and preserve their heritage while contributing to a shared future.
It also highlighted the importance of fostering mutual understanding, respect and inclusion across our communities. The discussion recognised that Australia’s multicultural identity continues to be strengthened when people feel empowered to share their experiences, embrace their cultural heritage and contribute confidently to the broader community.

Building Stronger Communities

A key theme throughout the discussion was the role that community organisations play in strengthening social cohesion.
By working together, supporting one another and building connections across cultures, our communities can foster a stronger sense of belonging and ensure diverse voices are heard in a positive and constructive way.
The discussion also highlighted the importance of creating opportunities for dialogue and collaboration. Bringing people together through meaningful conversations helps build trust, encourages greater understanding and strengthens the relationships that underpin a vibrant multicultural society.

Looking Ahead

The morning served as a valuable reminder that cultural diversity is one of Western Australia’s greatest assets. Through open dialogue and communication, we can continue to build vibrant, inclusive communities where people of all backgrounds feel welcomed, respected and empowered to contribute.
The Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce shares the view that a safe, inclusive and harmonious multicultural Australia benefits everyone. As the leading voice for the Western Australian Chinese business community, the Chamber is committed to strengthening engagement across the broader Asian diaspora in Western Australia, building partnerships with other communities and contributing positively to the social and economic fabric of our State.
We extend our sincere thanks to Jason Yat-Sen Li MP for sharing his insights and to everyone who joined us for an engaging and inspiring morning.
The Chamber’s door is always open to members of our community. We welcome your ideas, perspectives and participation as we continue to build stronger connections, foster meaningful dialogue and advocate for an inclusive and thriving multicultural Western Australia.
