AI in Action: WACCC Visits Optus Business Centre Perth South
An email assistant that prepares draft replies before you open your inbox. A virtual receptionist that answers routine enquiries using your business’s own information. These were among the practical applications of AI explored during WACCC’s recent visit to Optus Business Centre Perth South.
On 13 October 2026, WACCC Manager Hillary Yee, Council Member Wayne Teo and Coordinator Melody visited the Optus team in Cannington to explore how technology could help local businesses save time, strengthen cyber readiness and support business growth.
As WACCC’s Telecommunications Partner, Optus Business Centre Perth South brings together local expertise, business technology solutions and ongoing account management to support the Chamber’s members.

Productivity and AI: Making everyday tasks easier
For many small business owners, managing emails and answering phone calls can take valuable time away from running and growing their businesses. The visit explored how AI could help reduce some of that workload.
The team demonstrated an AI email assistant that uses a business’s own emails and internal information to prepare draft responses, identify gaps for human review and direct tasks to the appropriate staff. Features such as calendar integration and the ability to learn from corrections were also explored.
Another demonstration showcased an AI phone receptionist designed to answer routine calls and respond to enquiries using the business’s own information.
These practical examples brought AI to life through familiar business tasks, giving the team a clearer picture of how the technology could help streamline everyday operations and free up time for other priorities.
Cyber readiness: Building confidence and awareness
As businesses increasingly rely on digital tools, cyber security remains an important consideration.
The discussion also highlighted Optus’s free FutureFit cyber readiness workshops, which help businesses build their understanding of cyber risks and improve their preparedness.
For members looking to strengthen their cyber awareness while embracing new technology, these workshops offer an opportunity to develop practical knowledge and take steps towards a more secure business.
Connectivity and technology: Local advice when it matters
Having access to the right technology is only part of the equation. Businesses also need advice and support that reflect their individual needs.
Optus Business Centre Perth South offers local business advice, a dedicated adviser and ongoing account management to help businesses navigate their communications and technology requirements.
Services available across Optus Business Centre Perth’s North and South teams include mobile plans with international roaming inclusions, high-speed fibre internet, nbn services with one-to-one setup support, and 5G Internet in selected areas. Businesses can also explore cloud-based phone systems, including Optus Loop, which provides an alternative to traditional office phone systems.
Additional options include business devices from Apple and Samsung, along with the Optus Business Fund, which provides device credits that can grow as eligible services are added.
With a local team available to discuss these options, members can explore solutions that suit their operations, budgets and future plans.
