The Migrant’s Story 2026: Celebrating Leadership, Resilience and Community
For more than two decades, The Migrants Story has been one of WACCC’s most anticipated annual events, celebrating the journeys of migrants whose resilience, ambition and leadership have helped shape Western Australia’s business and community landscape.

This year, we were privileged to hear from Dr Marcus Tan, founder of Healthengine, and Joey Chen, Owner and Director of Eternity Tile + Bath + Home, who shared their personal journeys as entrepreneurs, leaders and members of Western Australia’s multicultural community.
Success Beyond Business
The discussion explored the realities of building a successful career while maintaining balance across family, business and personal commitments.
Both speakers reflected candidly on the challenges that come with leadership, highlighting that long-term success is rarely achieved alone. Strong support networks, trusted relationships and surrounding yourself with the right people were recurring themes throughout the evening.

Building Trust and Growing Together
Joey Chen shared her experience of building a successful business alongside her family, highlighting the importance of trust, teamwork and shared values.
She also reflected on establishing credibility as a female entrepreneur within the construction industry, demonstrating how strong relationships, consistency and authenticity have contributed to the continued growth of the business and its reputation within the Western Australian community.

Paying It Forward
Dr Marcus Tan reflected on the values many migrant families are raised with working hard, striving for excellence and embracing opportunity.
He also spoke about the importance of becoming more visible as leaders within the community and the responsibility that comes with success. Through philanthropy, investing and supporting future generations, today’s leaders can help create opportunities for those who follow.

Continuing the Journey
The Migrants Story continues to showcase the remarkable individuals whose journeys have shaped Western Australia while inspiring the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs and professionals.
A sincere thank you to our speakers, Dr Marcus Tan and Joey Chen, for sharing their experiences so generously, and to moderator Nancy Zhao for guiding such an engaging and insightful conversation.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to our special guests, Sook Yee Lai MLA, Basil Zempilas MLA and Lord Mayor Bruce Reynolds, for joining us and for their continued support of the Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce and our business community.

Thank you also to our event sponsors – AsiaLink Capital, Commonwealth Bank, Eternity Tile + Bath + Home, Imperial Finance, Linic, Lions Alzheimer’s Foundation, M Property Management and SKS Group – for making the evening possible, and to everyone who joined us for another memorable celebration of leadership, community and the stories that continue to shape Western Australia.
