The Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce held its first Women’s Committee meeting on 22 July 2026, hosted by Commonwealth Bank at Bankwest Place. Fifteen women attended, including representatives from CBA, to help shape the direction of a new Committee dedicated to elevating Asian women in business and leadership across WA.
The session opened with an interactive workshop led by Dr Amy Tian, Deputy Chair of Academic Board at Curtin University, who guided participants through the GROWTH coaching model. The framework helped sharpen the discussion that followed, turning open conversation into clearer objectives and next steps.
Building on this, participants discussed two questions: what the Committee should stand for, and how it should operate. Discussion centred on the need for greater visibility and representation for Asian women in leadership roles, alongside sponsorship and mentoring relationships that help members grow. A recurring idea was the multiplier effect, where support given to one member is passed on to others as they progress in their careers.
On structure, the group discussed governance, a code of conduct, and priorities across short, medium and long-term horizons. Ideas for building momentum included workshops, strategic connections between members, and regular profiling of Committee members and their achievements.
The session helped shape a draft mission statement: the WACCC Women’s Committee empowers Asian women in Western Australia to gain visibility and step into leadership.
Given the strong engagement from participants, WACCC will hold a second Committee meeting on 26 August 2026, again hosted by Commonwealth Bank, to formally establish the Committee, appoint key roles, and set an annual calendar.
