Wednesday Networking with Ms Jiping Zou
Wednesday Networking is a platform for members and non-members to meet other like-minded people, providing the chance to create relationships.
IMPORTANCE OF TRANSLATION
The advert of mobile internet and easily accessible translation tools such as Google Translate has greatly reduced the barrier of languages. Unfortunately, these tools create the false impression that translation is a mechanical process, one which requires minimal human input. The result is sometimes comical (see signs below). More seriously, translation without context may lead to misunderstanding, and is sometimes deployed as a tool for misinformation.
Our speaker, Ms Jiping Zou, is an expert translator and educator. She has taught languages and translation at universities including UWA, Murdoch and Guangzhou University of Foreign Languages. She has also worked as professional translator / interpreter for governments and industries. She will share her stories and thoughts on languages and translation.
