All businesses have a discreet operating model and today many include the ethos of giving as part of that model. The Lester Group has done that. Headed up by Chairman Richard Lester AM, Lester Group is in the business of real estate development and investment and comprises residential subdivisions in WA alongside it’s growing property syndication business.

Richard was the founder and CEO of Growth Equities Mutual Ltd, which he built into the leading unlisted property trust manager in Australia. This company was sold to Lend Lease Corporation in 1994. He has also served as a Non-Executive Director of Wesfarmers Ltd for 14 years and Chairman of the Western Australia Institute for Medical Research (WAIMR) now the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research for 9 years.

In 2007, Richard and the Lester Group agreed to become the Founding Sponsor of the Black Swan Prize for Portraiture, now renamed the Lester Prize. The annual Lester Prize has grown to 740 entries with $90,000 of sponsored prizes and is viewed at the Art Gallery of WA by 10,000 patrons. In addition to the senior event, Lester Inc promotes the Lester Prize – Youth Awards.
