Statement Regarding Privacy Policy

The Western Australian Chinese Chamber of Commerce (WACCC) recognises the importance of protecting the privacy of personally identifiable information collected about our users. For the purposes of this Privacy Statement, the word users includes all type of members (Corporate, individual, sole trader, young and student), visitors to our web sites, subscribers to and users of our services, purchasers of our services and products, and advertising customers.

We are committed to safeguarding the privacy of our users while providing a personalised and valuable service.

The information that you provide to us is not sold to third party data compilation services. From time to time, we may make your contact details available to other WACCC members, business partners and third party suppliers we engage to provide services and products. Your contact details are also included in the " WACCC Trade Directory", published annually by the Chamber.

Personal Information
We usually collect personal information directly from you although sometimes we may use agents or service providers to do this for us. We may also acquire lists from other sources, both from other chambers, associations, companies and from other public documents.

We collect personal information from you through the use of online enquiry and registration forms and every time you e-mail, post or fax us your details.

We collect personal information when you click onto links or respond to our electronic newsletter that is send to your electronic in-box.

We also collect personal information when you drop your business cards at any of our events and functions.

Personal information that may be gathered may include name, address, email or credit card information in the case of event registration, publications or membership subscriptions. The information you volunteer to us is used to fulfil your request and provide you with WACCC services, events or publications. Information from our website will be collected and may be used for WACCC marketing.

By requesting an WACCC service such as membership, event registration or purchasing a publication, you consent to the collection and use of your contact information which may be disclosed to other WACCC members (excluding credit card details), business partners and third party suppliers we engage to provide services and products.

We also collect information automatically about your visit to our site. The information obtained in this way, which includes demographic data and browsing patterns, is only used in aggregate form.

Use of personal information
We use your information to provide our services (which may include the display of personalised content and advertising) to you, to fulfil administrative functions associated with these services, for example billing, to enter into contracts with you or third parties and for marketing and client relationship purposes. Where your personal information is contained within an advertisement which we publish for you, we may also use your information for publication of that same advertisement in other media.

We process personal information collected via the site for the purposes of:

  • providing a personalised service
  • conducting market research surveys
  • running competitions
  • providing you with information about products and services offered by WACCC and;
  • providing you with information about products and services offered by carefully selected third party companies

If you do not wish to receive information about our products or services, or the products or services offered by other organisations, please email your request to admin@waccc.com.au.

However we may disclose your information to business partners and third party suppliers we engage to provide services and products. We or they may also use your personally identifiable information to assist us in improving our products and services and any of us might be in touch to let you know about goods, services, or promotions which may interest you.

 

Use of Aggregate Data

We may collect and use certain non-personal information (e.g., the identity of your Internet browser, the type of operating system you use, your IP address and the domain name of your Internet service provider) to optimise our goods and services (which may include the display of personalised content and advertising)  including our Web pages for your computer.

The WACCC may use personally identifiable information in aggregate form to improve our goods and services including our Web sites and make them more responsive to the needs of our customers. This statistical compilation and analysis of information may also be used by The WACCC or provided to others as a summary report for marketing, advertising or research purposes.

We also use information in aggregate form:

  • to build up marketing profiles
  • to aid strategic development
  • to manage our relationship with advertisers and to audit usage of the site

They allow us to track usage patterns and to compile data that can help us improve our content and target advertising. Our chamber attempts to link only to sites which have similarly high respect for your privacy.

However, we are not responsible for the content of the privacy practices employed by other sites.

Third party web-sites should contain their own privacy statements and those third parties are responsible for informing you about their own privacy practice. WACCC receives no benefit on data from those third party web-sites who may collect information about you.

Use by Third Parties

The WACCC may disclose your information to its service providers and contractors from time to time to help us to provide and market our goods and services to you. If we do this we generally require these parties to protect your information in the same way we do.

Internet-based transfers
Given that the Internet is a global environment, using the Internet to collect and process personal data necessarily involves the transmission of data on an international basis. Therefore, by browsing www.waccc.com.au site and communicating electronically with us you acknowledge and agree to our processing of personal data in this way.

The WACCC strives to ensure the security, integrity and privacy of personally identifiable information of our customers. We use a variety of physical and electronic security measures including restricting physical access to our offices and firewalls and secure databases to keep personal information secure from misuse, loss or unauthorised use or disclosure.

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be totally secure.

Access to Personal Information

You have a right to access most personal information we hold about you and if we deny access in some circumstances we will tell you why.

Public Information

Any information posted on bulletin boards and/or communicated in chat areas becomes public information. While The WACCC strives to protect and respect your privacy, we cannot guarantee the security of any information you disclose in a chat room, blog or bulletin board.

What else you should know about privacy on the Internet

Remember to close your browser when you have finished your user session. This is to ensure that others cannot access your personal information and correspondence if you share a computer with someone else or are using a computer in a public place like a library or Internet cafe. You as an individual are responsible for the security of and access to your own computer.

Whenever you voluntarily disclose personal information over the Internet that this information can be collected and used by others. In short, if you post personal information in publicly accessible online forums, you may receive unsolicited messages from other parties in return. Ultimately, you are solely responsible for maintaining the secrecy of your username and passwords and any account information. Please be careful and responsible whenever you are using the Internet.
